Day of Costumes

Since the President banned Halloween (seriously), there was a "Day of Costumes". Here are the boys, or rather here's a dadoo (Jacob's word for dog) and Tweety.

DC Amigo and the Beach

A couple updates from the last week.

We were pleased to host a friend of ours from DC who was in town for business. He used to live in Quito so is practically a local, and introduced us to a number of really great folks in town who are old friends of his. And he did very well with the boys, as the picture below shows. Please note that Timothy's nap was due to Jeff's rocking, not to Santiago's choice of beverage.

We also spent a long weekend in Manta, a beach/port town midway down the coast. We had a great time - good weather, great seafood, and a good time with some friends who were down there for work as well. Our friends have an adorable 6 year old, and Jacob loved playing with a big kid. Timothy was indoors mostly, as we didn't think his fair skin was quite suited for equatorial temperatures and sun. Here are some photos of the visit:

Seventeen And Two

This posting is late... We were on vacation and I'm catching up.

I can't believe it's been a month since 16+1, but here we are at Jacob's 17 month mark and Timmy's second. These ages are amazing, as progress is measured in days not months or years, as it will be when they are much older. As you can see, neither of our boys were too excited about this exercise again.

Timothy is a super smiley baby, when he is not sleeping, which is quite often. He enjoys watching objects, moving his hands and legs, and listening (and responding) to talking and singing.

Jacob loves dogs and all other animals, and expressively yells "dado" whenever he spots one. He likes to show how "strong" he is by carrying everything and anything that's somewhat heavy or large. He is comprehending more and more each day. He loves pointing out his facial features (and yours, including attempts to put his fingers up your nose, when you say "nose"), and is starting to say more words in Spanish and English. He loves his playgroup and is now in the class with some of the older kids, as his teacher said his peers were "demasiado aburridos" (too boring) for him.

We're off to the beach for our first trip as a family of four. Should be fun!

it had to happen eventually

As much as we'd hoped that the Don King - Albert Einstein look would take hold, we realized that it hadn't and Jacob's wild locks needed to be cut. Jacob didn't cry one bit, and I was (surprisingly) pretty composed myself. Here are the photos, including the "new Jacob" on the ride home:
